Fred's career extends back to his storytelling days when he voiced for The Growler Tapes and Growler Radio. But his real talent has been getting the best work out of the rest of the cast on the Baby Growlers music series. "Fred has really blossomed with Baby Growlers," says Mother Huhu. "The little ones love to sing with him, even though they tease him. And although he's only singing on a few songs, he was the vocal coach on all 5 cds! It's because of Fred that all those animals became musicians!"

Composer Bob Sakayama says, "He may seem to be difficult to work with, but he knows instinctively what to do in the studio, the real important stuff. Like getting the smiles in the voices. His over the top seriousness was cracking everyone up, all the time, which really helped set the fun mood. The song "When Fred Walks In" was written as a tribute to his ridiculous need to make everyone follow the rules. The thing is that everyone sees right through his tough guy image. They know he's really just a softie with a loud voice, and they really do love him."

Sammy explains Fred's behavior as extreme shyness. "He's such a silly. He hid in the bathroom anytime the press showed up during the recording sessions. No one could convice him to do the interviews. He's just too timid and nervous. After each cd came out, we noticed that he stopped reading the papers because he was afraid to read the reviews. Can you believe that?"

This may not seem like the Fred we know on the recordings, but it's the real Fred. The one we hope will send in his bio soon.
